PI Nature of Šibenik-Knin County

Šibenik-Knin County is an area of exceptional biodiversity and cultural and historical heritage that requires special measures of protection, preservation, valorization and sustainable management. In addition to two national parks, Krka and Kornati, and the Nature Parks of Lake Vrana, Dinara and Velebit, partly in Zadar and Split-Dalmatia counties, numerous other natural areas of the county are protected by law.

In the category of significant landscape, six sites, one natural monument and almost sixty sites of the Natura 2000 ecological network are protected. A special place is occupied by the UNESCO monument of the Fortress of St. Nicholas, located within the Significant Landscape of the Canal-Port in Šibenik. These valuable areas with unique flora, fauna and geomorphological heritage are cared for by the Public Institution Nature of the Šibenik-Knin County, founded in 2007. Its task is to protect, maintain and preserve the original nature and cultural assets for the benefit of citizens, visitors and future generations.
