Association "Zelena Istra"

Green Istria is a non-profit citizens' association that advocates for the protection of the environment and natural resources, as well as social justice. For 30 years, Green Istria has been actively involved in building a democratic, solidary and environmentally sustainable society. Among the key goals of Green Istria are sustainable development and environmental democracy.

Green Istria is one of the leading environmental protection organizations in Croatia, articulating topics such as the unacceptability of planning an energy future based on fossil fuels. Green Istria advocates participatory forms of management of public goods and services, as opposed to their privatization, and encourages public participation in decision-making processes.

We are active in the local community with our programs, projects and awareness-raising campaigns. The citizens of Pula and the Istrian County recognize us for our support service in solving environmental problems, the Green Phone, as well as numerous campaigns related to separate collection, reduction and recycling of waste, healthy food and urban gardening, and the protection of natural resources.

Green Istria is active at the local, national and international levels. Therefore, we supported and led campaigns such as those against the construction of the Plomin C coal-fired thermal power plant and the exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons in the Adriatic Sea (S.O.S. for the Adriatic).

Zelena Istra has a small but passionate team of experts who work on projects, coordinate campaigns and support many activists and volunteers.
